Evaluating staff/patient engagement with sustainability actions in a healthcare environment
Name: Devon NHS Partnership Trust
Project summary: Staff at the Beech Unit in Torbay have identified and implemented a wide range of actions to progress sustainability and contribute towards the Trust’s carbon and waste reductions in Devon. Having made a fantastic start to this, they are keen to partner with a student on a research project to understand the wider engagement with these actions as a result of staff and patient education on sustainability behaviours through their time in the Beech Unit.
Detailed summary: The Beech Unit are seeking a student to develop an evaluation method that can estimate the positive impacts being made based on the actions taken.
During their time in the Beech Unit staff engage patients with small behaviour changes to educate and encourage patients to reduce waste generation and increase recycling habits. The team are keen to evaluate the continuation of engagement with such behaviours and habits to see if their efforts are leading to longer term positive impacts.
The Trust and SOS-UK (previously NUS sustainability team) will support you in developing a robust and suitable approach for this project. We are open to your innovation and input to developing a suitable approach to this.
