Evaluating the Impact of sustainability Actions in a Healthcare Unit
Name: Devon NHS Partnership Trust
Project summary: Staff at the Beech Unit in Torbay have identified and implemented a wide range of actions to progress sustainability and contribute towards the Trust’s carbon and waste reductions in Devon. Having made a fantastic start to this, they are keen to partner with a student on a research project to develop a robust methodology and evaluate the impacts of the actions they are taken.
Detailed summary: A key challenge for the Beech Unit, Torbay hospital, is evaluating the impact of the actions they are taking to reduce their carbon emissions, waste generation and detrimental environmental impacts. Currently, the Trust measures their carbon as an entire organisation rather than by department or unit. The Beech Unit are seeking a student to develop an evaluation method that can estimate the positive impacts being made based on the actions taken.
The Trust and SOS-UK (previously NUS sustainability team) will support you in developing a robust and suitable approach for this project. We are open to your innovation and input to developing a suitable approach to this.
This could be done as a project or a deeper piece of research that also includes staff/patient responses and engagement with sustainability actions.
