Environmental Social Science
First name: Racheal
Category: Animal behaviour and welfare
Short introduction: I am looking to work with an organisation that is striving to create positive change in their locality, whether through improving the environment, working towards sustainability or educating and inspiring the community. I am passionate about protecting and enhancing natural areas, inspired by the forests I have grow up in, and empowered by peers, professors and activists that I have been surrounded by during my time at university. I am motivated, creative, hard working and a team player.
Education, skills knowledge and experience: Throughout my degree and the experiences that have come with it, learning and growing to understand environmental issues and their severity has made me determined to dedicate my future career to making a positive difference. Covering a vast range of disciplines I have gained knowledge of environmental law, human ecology, climate change, conservation, resource conflict and land-use planning, to name a few. Provided with a holistic perspective, I recognise the intersections of environmental issues in society, whether it be the economy and ecosystem services, or systems of oppression that continue to disadvantage groups based on race or gender. Skills include essay and report writing, creativity and innovation to solve issues and inspire change. My knowledge and skills have been enhanced through my involvement in student organisations, non-profit and student led, as well as my summer internship at a nature charity in Malta, proving adaption to new working environments and novel scenarios.
