Dissertation: The crisis of representation of rape and sexual violence in contemporary performance
Dissertation category: Arts, culture, heritage
Dissertation theme: Representation of rape and sexual violence
Short summary: I (a survivor) am growing increasingly uncomfortable with how rape and other forms of sexual violence are being presented in theatre and performance.
Detailed summary: Examining examples of contemporary theatre and performance, I aim to analyse an impression of current representation. I will be exploring a number of issues surrounding these representation - these include; tokenism, metaphor, realism, artistic license and silencing. I will also be discussing male rape and sexual violence, applying feminism, and critically asking 'is (male) rape a feminist issue?'
